Net Neutrality: Can the internet remain neutral?, Info
World, 7/14/2006
It's a growing concern in the US, with Congress
getting in on the act - is 'net neutrality' defendable
or will the internet soon become a battleground
between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'?

Net Neutrality, Meet Jon Stewart, Web Pro News,
7/14/2006
What does it take to for Net Neutrality to get
national television coverage? Was this picked up on

Web Ad Rivals Unite on Net Neutrality Plea to Senate,
Clickz, 7/14/2006
Google, Yahoo, IAC/InterActiveCorp, Amazon and eBay,
themselves rivals for online marketing dollars, sent a
letter yesterday to every Senator, hoping to get Net
neutrality language added to a telecommunications bill
before it comes before the full Senate. At stake are
untold ad dollars associated with high bandwidth
content such as video.

Responding to Felten (& Co.), squared, PK, 7/14/2006
My response to Ed Felten’s policy recommendations
(Felten suggests we wait and see before imposing
network neutrality mandates), has garnered its own
response. Tim Lee of TechLiberation has posted two
responses (first) (second), the first of which becomes
part of Felten’s sensible follow-up, and the second of
which references this thoughtful post by EFF Chairman
Brad Templeton.

The Ted Stevens Internet Fan Club, IP Democracy,
7/14/2006
OK, I’m piling on here, but there’s just too many good
laughs to have at Senator Ted Stevens’ (R-AK) expense.
Another bit of mockery that is laugh-out loud funny:
The Ted Stevens Internet Fan Club, which has this
great song by Andrew Raff called “The Internet is a
Series of Tubes.”

Net Neutrality: Strike While the Iron Is Hot?, Ed
Felton, 7/14/2006
Bill Herman at the Public Knowledge blog has an
interesting response to my net neutrality paper. As he
notes, my paper was mostly about the technical details
surrounding neutrality, with a short policy
recommendation at the end. Here’s the last paragraph
of my paper:

FCC Blesses Adelphia Deal with Minor Conditions, IP
Democracy, 7/14/2006
As expected, the FCC today gave its approval to the
purchase of bankrupt cable company Adelphia by the
nation’s number one and number two operators, Comcast
and Time Warner. By a vote of four-to-one, with
Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein dissenting (sort of),
the Commission greenlighted the $17 bil. buyout of
Adelphia, but conditioned the approval on a few
content access requirements.

Homeland Security Tests Mobile Alert System, Ecommerce
Times, 7/14/2006
The Department of Homeland Security is testing a new
digital emergency system that, once implemented, will
deliver alerts to any device that can receive a text
message. It is expected to go into effect by the end
of 2007 after testing, largely carried out through its
partnership with the Association of Public Television
Stations, is complete. The current emergency alert
system was developed during the Cold War. As
aficionados of late night network television can
attest, the technology used is in serious need of an
update.
