Will 2008 be the WiMAX Year?, CircleID
There has recently been some good and bad news about
WiMAX. On the good news part, an announcement made by

months of announcing a plan to join forces in building

IPv4 Address Exhaustion and a Trading Market, CircleID
There are discussions starting within the Regional
Internet Registries (RIRs) about the creation of
trading market in IPv4 addresses as we approach the
inevitable exhaustion of unallocated addresses. The
view being put forward is basically "this is likely to
happen anyway and by discussing it now, we can ensure
it happens in an orderly way".

Vonage Gets Off Cheap in Nortel Settlement, Ecommerce

Quick! Who Else Has A VoIP Patent That Vonage Can
Settle Over?, Techdirt
We've covered in too much detail how it's some sort of
"open season" on Vonage when it comes to VoIP patents.
After dealing with ridiculous and expensive patent
lawsuits from companies who failed to actually
innovate in the same way Vonage did, the company was
pressured by Wall Street to quickly settle the various
patent lawsuits filed against the company. Of course,
rather than settle matters, that simply opened the
door for other companies to go searching through their
patent portfolios to see if there was anything they
could sue Vonage over.

Malware evolving too fast for antivirus apps, CW
We've feared it for a long time, and now the situation
has come to pass: The malware's moving faster than the
tools to thwart it. But since you can't simply hide
under a non-wired rock and hope it goes away, it's
worth knowing how AV manufacturers are battling back
-- and how you can too.

Obamas Digital Policy, Freedom to Tinker
The Iowa caucuses, less than a week away, will kick
off the briefest and most intense series of
presidential primaries in recent history. That makes
it a good time to check in on what the candidates are
saying about digital technologies. Between now and
February 5th (the 23-state tsunami of primaries that
may well resolve the major party nominations), well
be taking a look.
