Public Knowledge Disappointed with FCC Broadband Plan, PK
“We are disappointed at what the FCC staff said were the most critical elements of the Commission’s broadband plan. At a time when U.S. standing in the world is rapidly falling in broadband penetration and adoption, and when bold plans are called for, the Commission appears to be satisfied with taking incremental steps.

FCC Takes on Cable But Not Carriers With National Broadband Plan, Gigaom
The Federal Communications Commission today heard about the types of policies that need to be implemented in order to make nationwide broadband a reality as part of an update to the National Broadband Plan that’s due Feb. 17. Amid rather esoteric policies regarding pole placement and installing broadband with road construction, there were a few controversial proposals, but little dealing with the overall lack of competition in the U.S.

Forward Progress at the FCC, PFF
Just when it was starting to look like it was "All Broadband, All the Time" at the Federal Communications Commission, a ray of light burst through: an FCC investigation begun into fraudulent billings of the Telecommunications Relay Fund has resulted in indictments brought by the U.S. Department of Justice. Broadcasting & Cable reports that DOJ has charged twenty-six people for allegedly bilking the fund out of $60 million in bogus calls.

FCC Hires Law Professor Who Believes Broadcast Indecency Laws Are Unconstitutional, Techdirt
There are many people out there who are greatly troubled by the way the FCC "enforces" efforts against broadcast indecency -- with some even questioning whether or not it's even constitutional for the FCC to act as a public arbiter of indecency. It looks like the FCC has just hired one such person, in the form of Duke telco law professor Stuart Benjamin.
