CTIA Statement On FCC's Request for Additional Time to Submit National Broadband Plan, CTIA
"The Commission has a difficult task of developing the national broadband plan. We know the FCC has and is working diligently to complete the plan, and believe it is more important that the Commission get it right. If they need more time to get it right, then Congress should allow it."

National Broadband Plan - Worth the Wait, Comcast
Like many policy wonks, technology leaders, advocacy groups, and just plain interested citizens, we’ve been looking forward to February 17, when the Federal Communications Commission was scheduled to submit the National Broadband Plan to Congress. Given the mammoth task the FCC was assigned by Congress, they’ve asked Congress for another month to complete the plan. We support that.

The Star Trek Guide to the National Broadband Plan, PK
“To boldly go.” There may be no more famous split infinitive than the one used to introduce the voyages of the starship Enterprise through the more than 40-year history of the Star Trek franchise. Whether it was “to boldly go where no man has gone before,” in the original series, or “to boldly go where no one has gone before,” in the Next Generation, the sentiment was clear. Bold is better.

Public Knowledge Statement on Delay of Broadband Plan, PK
“We are pleased that the FCC has decided to take the extra time it needs to complete the National Broadband Plan. This is a very complex undertaking that will be crucial for the development of the American economy.

FCC's underwhelming-looking broadband plan also tardy, Ars Technica
The plan, due to be presented to Congress next month, now looks to be delayed by a month. Like a tardy student going to a professor, the FCC has written Congress to ask for a four-week extension on its "big paper." Perhaps the agency can use the extra time to ensure the plan contains some of that "change" we've heard so much about.

The decade of the social Web (fixed & mobile), Net Family News
The '00s were when Web 2.0 hit – the increasingly mobile social Web, from desktops to laptops to gameplayers and smartphones, that spelled a media makeover as radical as the printing press did nearly 500 years ago. Why so radical? Well, maybe people felt the realtime one-on-one conversations of the telephone were just as radical in their time, but now we're

Safe Eye 6 announced with Internet TV Filtering, Inside Internet filtering
Today I am excited to announce the latest revision of Safe Eyes, which includes another industry first. Safe Eyes 6 is able to filter online TV sites on a show by show basis. This means that you no longer have to block or allow an entire website like Hulu, but instead you can allow specific shows based on the TV rating for that show (TV-G, TV-PG, etc).

Julius Genachowski at CES on digital literacy, Crawford
This is a time of unprecedented challenge around kids and media and unprecedented opportunity. The world is a different place now. When I was a child, my parents had to worry about one TV in the basement and they had rules that worked. Parents today have a very different experience. There’s still a TV, but many different channels - and many other sources.

Virtual Banishment and the First Amendment: Estavillo v. Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Cybertelecom
I saw this case in the excellent National Association of Attorneys General publication Cyber Crime e-newsletter . Many of us host or sponsor online communities of one form or another. On occasion, this means we must engage in moderation of the discourse in that community, and, as chance may arise, on occasion, we must give some chap the boot from the community for violating the AUP or the TOS

Comcast, FCC Head To Court Over Net Neutrality - Comcast still argues FCC had no authority to 'sanction' carrier for throttling.., dslreports
Back in May of 2007, a user posted to our forums highlighting his discovery that Comcast was forging user packets to throttle upstream bandwidth for all users, all of the time. The user didn't know it at the time, but that single post literally began a multi-year adventure that would culminate in national press attention and an FCC investigation into how Comcast managed
